Was Paul McCartney backstage at Rick Springfield's concert last
night?
Reportedly Paul was not at this concert though people claimed
to have seen him.
This is what Rick Springfield said about the photo:
"Our new bass player Siggy
debuts tonite with us here at Chastain Park in Atlanta. No, not
the guy on the right, it's the guy on the left."

Bill Clinton, McCartney and Springsteen Attend Bill Murray's 'Rock
the Kasbah' Screening
Open Road Films' new comedy "Rock
the Kasbah," starring Bill Murray, Kate Hudson and Bruce
Willis, debuted at the United Artist Theater in East Hampton,
N.Y., on Friday night for a special sneak preview. The screening
- presented by the Peggy Siegel Company and hosted by famed singer
Jimmy Buffett and his wife Jane - was a crowd pleaser. Guests
raved about Murray's funny yet heartfelt performance as a washed-up
rock manager.
But it was the post-screening after party
at the Blue Parrot Bar & Grill that drew the most buzz. A
star-studded guest list that included Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen, Jon Bon Jovi, John Mellencamp,
former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani and president Bill Clinton
joined the film's cast to celebrate the pic and enjoy a casual
nightcap. All eyes were on Clinton. The 42nd president of the
United States received the most attention and selfie requests
from the partygoers. Even the musicians and actors seemed to be
starstruck.
"It's very exciting that the president is here," Murray
told Variety at the party. "It's an honor to meet
him and get to talk to him."
Murray greeted Clinton with a firm handshake and shared a lighthearted
conversation. The two posed for photos and then Willis and his
wife Emma introduced themselves to the president.
Clinton made his way to the Blue Parrot's outdoor dinning area
where McCartney, Springsteen and Buffett stood in a circle socializing
among a crowd of partygoers. Clinton joined in on the conversation
with the prolific musicians and briefly chatted. Meanwhile,
Mellencamp was in a corner socializing with some friends and Bon
Jovi worked the room, conversing with all the guests.
Throughout the star-stuffed evening, Variety caught up
with the cast of "Rock the Kasbah." Oscar-winning director
Barry Levinson helms the film written by Murray's longtime pal
Mitch Glazer. The movie is inspired by true events from an Afghan
reality television show competition similar to "American
Idol" and based on one woman who had the courage to sing
in public despite facing death threats and being ostracized by
her family and friends. With a $15 million budget, the film was
made in 28 days and shot in Morocco with temperatures over 110
degrees.
"I wrote this story specially for Bill and I've pretty much
written for him my whole life," said Glazer, who first wrote
"Scrooged" for Murray in 1987. "We are dear friends
and I wanted to write something that would show Bill's humor and
heart and all the things that he can do. That was the goal. Whether
I did that or not is up to other people."
Murray - who declined to talk about his gig in the new "Ghostbusters"
reboot by saying, "I'm not supposed to tell anyone about
it" - was drawn to "Rock the Kasbah's" storyline.
"I liked that it's not a political or a military story. It's
much more of a human story," said Murray. "I was interested
in the story from the beginning. We spent years getting it made
and I liked the way it turned out. All the actors are so good.
I think this is as good as anyone in this film has ever been.
Kate Hudson, Bruce and Zooey [Deschanel] are amazing in this movie.
Everyone did their very best and it just jumped up the level.
Every day we out-shot the script. That's cool."
Willis, who plays an on-edge mercenary, took on the supporting
role in order to act with Murray.
"I only worked five days on the film and one of the main
reasons I chose the part is to work with Bill Murray," said
Willis, dressed down in jeans and Nike sneakers. "I got to
bounce off of Billy Murray, which made shooting in the desert
a ball. I never really liked deserts, but he made it fun. He makes
me laugh and he's a comic genius. He's a funny guy on-and-off
the screen. I'd love to work with him again."
"Rock the Kasbah" opens Oct. 23 nationwide.

You Gave Me The Answer Asks...
This past month, PaulMcCartney.com has been fully immersed
in the forthcoming reissues of Tug of War and Pipes of Peace,
two of Paul's classic '80s solo albums and the latest works to
receive the Paul McCartney Archive Collection treatment.
We have been busy digging through the archives and getting the
general scoop on some of the artists who collaborated with Paul
on the original releases - Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson being
two we were particularly interested in! Our curiosity got the
better of us, so we hope you will accept our apologies for hi-jacking
this month's 'You Gave Me The Answer' with our own question!
We recently
spoke with Paul about the Tug of War album and asked him, "What
was it like working with Stevie Wonder?"
"Stevie was great, it was different from working with Michael
Jackson. With 'Ebony and Ivory', I'd sort of written it with Stevie
in mind and I'd written it on my own in Scotland. Then I thought
if I do this with anyone, Stevie would be the perfect person.
I'm a big fan of his. So I got in touch and said, 'I'm going to
be recording out in Montserrat, are you interested? Would you
like to do it?' So he said yes, and came out to Montserrat.
"I must say it was kind of difficult because he was coming,
then he wasn't coming I think that's all in the album notes
[the Deluxe Edition of Tug of War features an in-depth essay on
the recording of the album]. So there was a bit of doubt about
whether he was coming and stuff and he did, eventually. It was
great fun, we really struck up a great friendship and he suddenly,
surprisingly, said he would like to drum! So I said OK, not knowing
how good a drummer he was. He's a great drummer! Once I heard
him that was it! So he drummed and it was just a really great
experience, putting it together with him, taking a verse each
and getting inspired by his interpretation and feeding off each
other.
"It was great and we ended up having a great time. I got
to know him well because we were in a casual situation rather
than being backstage at the GRAMMYs or somewhere where there's
not much time. Like we were working all day and we did the other
track, 'What's That You're Doing?', which was more co-written.
It was written during the time we had in Montserrat. He was a
very funny guy. I heard stories from his childhood and we had
a lot of fun together."

about Cilla's passing. She was a lovely girl who infected everyone
with her great spirit. From first meeting her as a cloakroom girl
at the Cavern in Liverpool, to seeing her many times since, she
always had a fun loving dignity that made her a great pleasure

a bit of a laugh. It was a privilege to know and love her."

Paul To Reissue
'Tug of War' and 'Pipes of Peace'
MPL and the Concord Music Group are proud to announce two more
landmark installments in the multiple GRAMMY-winning Paul McCartney
Archive Collection. On 2nd October, 2015, Paul's early '80s back-to-back
classics Tug of War and Pipes of Peace will receive
lavish multiple configuration reissue treatment including exclusive
2015 remixes of both the entire Tug of War album and the
Pipes of Peace classic collaboration with Michael Jackson
'Say Say Say,' a treasure trove of previously unreleased tracks
and never before seen video, and much more.
Check out
the Deluxe Editions below:
Released in 1982, Tug of War was Paul's first album following the break-up of Wings and his third solo LP overall. Hailed upon its release as "exquisitely crafted" by The New York Times and a "masterpiece" by Rolling Stone, Tug of War went to #1 in no less than nine countries. Tug of War yielded such classic tracks as Paul's #1 duet with Stevie Wonder 'Ebony and Ivory,' the top 10 single 'Take It Away,' and of course 'Here Today,' the conversation Paul never had with the late John Lennon that remains a staple of Paul's live set to this day. Pipes of Peace, Paul's fourth solo album, followed in 1983 and continued Paul's early '80s run of platinum records. Singles from Pipes of Peace included the title track and of course Paul and Michael Jackson's timeless 'Say Say Say,' a multi-format global chart-topping smash continually cited as a landmark of that or any year--as recently as 2007, Vibe magazine rated 'Say Say Say' as one of the greatest duets of all time.
As with the GRAMMY-winning Band on the Run and Wings
Over America Archive editions, Paul personally supervised
all aspects of these releases and their various formats, which
include:
Tug of
War will be issued
as a 2-CD Special Edition comprised of the 2015 remix of the entire
album, plus a second disc of bonus audio featuring eight previously
unreleased demos of both album tracks and outtakes 'Stop, You
Don't Know Where She Came From' and 'Something That Didn't Happen,'
as well as demo and solo versions of 'Ebony and Ivory' and more.
The Tug Of War 3-CD/1-DVD Deluxe Edition adds the original
1982 album mix and a DVD featuring original music videos for the
album's singles and the brand new 18-minute documentary 'Fly TIA-Behind
The Scenes on Take It Away' featuring previously unseen archival
footage. In keeping with the award-winning Paul McCartney Archive
Collection standards, the Tug of War Deluxe Edition
will include a 112-page essay book and 64-page scrapbook, while
the strictly limited run of 1000 Super Deluxe sets will arrive
in a limited edition acrylic slipcase with five hand numbered
prints of images from the Linda McCartney archive.
The Pipes
of Peace 2-CD Special
Edition is made up of the original album plus a 9-track bonus
disc with such exclusive gems as a 2015 remix of 'Say Say Say'
by Spike Stent, unearthed demos of three album tracks and outtakes
'It's Not On' and 'Simple As That,' the previously unreleased
'Christian Bop' and more. The 2-CD/1-DVD Pipes of Peace
Deluxe Edition features a bonus video disc comprised of the original
promo clips for all three of the album's singles, plus previously
unreleased clips from Paul's film archives. The Deluxe configuration
will also include a 112-page essay book and 64-page book that
takes the reader behind the scenes on the 'Pipes of Peace' title
track video shoot.
Both albums and their companion bonus audio discs will also be
released as 2-LP 180-gram audiophile vinyl editions complete with
gatefold sleeves and download cards. The newly remixed and mastered
Tug of War and remastered Pipes of Peace will also
receive standard and Hi Res digital releases, as well deluxe digital
and Hi Res releases featuring all bonus audio.
Tug of War and Pipes of Peace are the newest installments in the acclaimed and ongoing Paul McCartney Archive Collection. The inaugural release in the series, the Deluxe Edition of Paul McCartney and Wings' 1973 milestone Band on the Run, won the 2010 GRAMMY Award for Best Historical Album, while the Deluxe Edition Box Set of the 1976 classic live collection Wings Over America took the 2013 GRAMMY for Best Boxed or Special Limited Edition Package. Previous releases in this ambitious reissue program encompassing 41 years of timeless material from the most successful songwriter and recording artist of all time include solo works McCartney and McCartney II, Paul and Linda McCartney's RAM, and Wings' Venus and Mars and At The Speed Of Sound.
The warm summer weather has officially arrived here in the UK,
which seems to have resulted in our diaries being full (and our
wallets empty!).
It's important to take a moment to relax and chill out between
the stream of weddings, BBQs and outdoor parties the summer months
invariably bring. Many of us like to take our holidays around
this time too, but if drinking from coconuts on a far away beach
isn't for you, there is another (and cheaper!) way to unwind.
We found Paul to be somewhat of an expert on this topic when we
caught up with him during his 'Out There' tour to ask him this
month's 'You Gave Me Answer'. The question was sent in by Grace
Ann from the US, who asks: "Do you still meditate and
do you think it's had a positive effect on your life?"
Paul replied, "Yes, I think it's great! I think it's always
very good to get a sort of still moment in your day. Whenever
I have a chance in a busy schedule, I'll do it, if I'm not rushing
out the door with some crazy stuff to do. But yeah, I always like
to take a moment and just meditate. It's a good thing. I do the
'TM' [Transcendental Meditation] and I was lucky because
I was taught personally by Maharishi."
PaulMcCartney.com: "When you were out in India with
The Beatles?"
Paul: "When we were in India, yes."
PaulMcCartney.com: "Do you still use the same mantra?"
Paul: "Yeah! You only
get one. It's good! It's very calming."

Keith Richards talks about Paul McCartney in his autobiography
I was packing to go back on the road, to play first the Super
Bowl in February and then one of the biggest rock-and-roll concerts
ever staged, in Rio, to more than a million people, two weeks
later. A busy start to the year. Exactly a year earlier, while
I was walking along the beach, climbing rocks, along the shore
came Paul McCartney, just before he played the Super Bowl that
year. It was certainly the strangest place for us to meet after
all the years, but certainly the best, because we both had time
to talk, maybe for the first time since those earliest days when
they were flogging songs before we were writing them. He just
turned up, said he'd found out where I lived from my neighbor
Bruce Willis. He said, "Oh, I just came down, I hope it's
OK. Sorry I didn't ring." And since I don't answer the phone
anyway, it was the only way he could do it. I sensed with Paul
that he really was looking for some time off. That beach is long,
and of course these things come in hindsight: there was something
wrong there already. His breakup with Heather Mills, who was with
him on that trip, was not long coming.
Paul started to turn up every
day, when his kid was sleeping. I'd never known Paul that well.
John and I knew each other quite well, and George and Ringo, but
Paul and I had never spent much time together. We were really
pleased to see each other. We fell straight in, talking about
the past, talking about songwriting. We talked about such strangely
simple things as the difference between the Beatles and the Stones
and that the Beatles were a vocal band because they could all
sing the lead vocal, and we were more of a musicians' band - we
only had one front man. He told me that because he was left-handed,
he and John could play the guitars like mirrors opposite each
other, watching each other's hands. So we started playing like
that. We even started composing a song together, a McCartney/Richards
number whose lyrics were pinned on the wall for many weeks. I
dared him to play "Please Please Me" at the Super Bowl,
but he said they needed weeks of warning. I remembered his hilarious
takeoff of Roy Orbison singing it, so we started singing that.
We got into discussions about inflatable dog kennels designed
like the dogs inside them - spotted ones for Dalmatians and so
on. Then we went off on one about a special project we were going
to develop, sun-dried celebrity turds, purified with rainwater
- get celebrities to donate them, coat them with shellac and get
a major artist to decorate them. Elton would do it; he's a great
guy. George Michael, he'll go for it. What about Madonna? So we
just had a good laugh. We had a good time together.

THE CONCERT
A crowd estimated to be over 100,000 filled the area in front of the Samsung Galaxy stage inside Chicago's Grant Park to see Paul McCartney. The show began on schedule at 7:45pm with a shortened version of the the pre-concert video rolling on enormous video screens surrounding the stage. At 8pm Paul appeared on stage to the deafening roar of the crowd.
Also at times the volume of the music would be lower than usual and then it would be boosted up again. Same issue happened at the sound check the day before.
The Lolla crowd was comprised of mostly 20 and 30-somethings. Macca was a must see for them and did not disappoint. He had the crowd in the palm of his hand. Though not familiar with his solo songs, the rowdy audience did enjoy them. The Beatles songs had them singing loudly and Wings songs, "Hi Hi Hi", and "Nineteen Hundred And Eighty-Five" got a very enthusiastic reaction. He responded with "Thank you Lollapaloozans!" Many under 30 concertgoers, wore Beatles and Wings T-shirts.
Paul's voice throughout the concert was stellar. The opener, "Magical Mystery Tour" started out with rough vocals, but by the middle of the song his voice had cleared. During the very emotional "Maybe I'm Amazed" and "Hear Today" Paul struggled to keep his composure and his vocals reflected that pain.
By the end of the concert the Lolla crowd was buzzing about how outstanding Paul's performance was. Several 20-somethings remarked that Paul' blew away most of the artists they had seen at other concerts who were younger than him. They marveled at how well his voice held up throughout the show and how young he looked. Many were talking about how incredible the experience was and that they couldn't believe a 73-year-old man could sing like that! Some were talking about wanting to see Ringo's concerts after seeing Paul's.
CONCERT HIGHLIGHTS
After reading the signs, Paul started strumming the acoustic guitar. Then he sang the first verse of "FourFiveSeconds," Rhianna's #1 hit that he co-wrote. The audience knew the song and started singing along. After the refrain he seque nicely into "We Can Work It Out."
Paul told some of his usual
concert stories, but when he did his introduction to "Here
Today," a song about an imaginary conversation with the late
John Lennon, a nearby stage was blasting dance music. It was so
loud that it clearly annoyed Paul. He none-the-less began to strum
the opening chords as the dance music continued to blast. Then
he stopped and said, "Oh, by the way, you'll notice here,
we got like, the disco going on over here. I intended this. What
I'm doing is kinda, it's like a crazy mash-up, this song and whatever
shit they're playing." That brought the house down, roaring
with laughter and clapping in agreement. Paul did a wave in the
direction of the offensive music stage and then started the song
again. (WATCH)
Afterwards, he sat down at the Magic Piano to play "Queenie
Eye" and said, "OK, now we got some amplification. We
can blast them off the planet!" People giggled and clapped.
"Live And Let Die" had an amazing fireworks show exploding behind the stage. It was timed perfectly during the song, which ended with an explosion of dazzling fireworks cascading upwards like a reversed waterfall.
For "Get Back" Paul
called on stage a "special guest", Britney Howard from
Alabama Shakes, who played right before Paul, on the same stage.
During the song, Britney sang a verse and also sang on the chorus.
She also played some smoking guitar leads.
When the song paused, Paul said, "Hey Britney do you want
to get back?" She answered with, "Let's get back on
home, Paul." He asked again, "Do you want to get back?
She answered, "We're all trying to get home Paul."
"Me too baby!!!" said Paul.
They continue with him singing "Get Back!" and Britney
doing the answer backs. When the song ended he asked the crowd,
"How 'bout that Britney?" The audience erupted in applause.
He added, "She wants to get back (pauses) to Alabama!"
After "Hey Jude"
Paul and the band took their bows, exited the stage and came back
a couple of minutes later waving giant flags. When the crowd saw
Paul waving the US flag they started chanting "USA! USA!
USA!"
The concert continued with "Hi, Hi, Hi" and ended with
the Abbey Road Medley.
Paul said his goodbyes to the Lolla crowd and exited the stage
at 10pm. Fireworks began shooting upwards behind the stage for
about a minute or so.

Lollapalooza Day 1: Paul McCartney closes out the night in grand
style
Paul McCartney, the legend, can handle anything, including
the competing beats of electronic dance music.
McCartney, 73, ran onto stage Friday night with the energy of
a far younger man as he closed out day one of Lollapalooza. He
toyed with the crowd, who knew every word and sang along.
He brought out the nostalgia, playing "Paperback Writer"
with a guitar he used to originally record the song. He made jokes
about the blaring electronic dance music coming from the closest
stage, where McCartney could see a dramatic light show ahead of
the city's sweeping moonlit skyline.
"My song will be a mashup of this song, and whatever s***
they're playing over there," he said to laughs and cheers.
The sound bleed became a problem for the crowd, but McCartney
took it with a grain of salt, even playing "Something"
on a delicate and quiet ukulele as dance beats continued from
afar.
McCartney brought out Alabama Shake's Brittany Howard for a performance
of "Get Back," - as his set came to a close.
Beatles fans, young and old, danced around the park grounds, grinning
ear-to-ear. McCartney's performance seemed to be one of the most
universally liked sets the festival has seen in 11 years.
"This is so cool I'd rather take a moment to drink it in
myself," McCartney told the crowd, before playing hit after
hit, including "Maybe I'm Amazed," I've Just Seen A
Face," "Blackbird," "Let It Be," and
"Hey Jude.
Howard, Alabama Shake's frontwoman wowed a large daytime crowd,
soaking up rays at the stage where McCartney would soon close
out the night. Howard screams. She shrieks. Her vocal range stretches
word by word and seems intrinsically linked to the emotional lyrics of
her songs. She wore a beautiful long-sleeved dress - and was probably
burning up.
But she didn't show it. Instead she showed thousands how strong
of a guitarist she is, and how unique of a voice she has. Friday's
performance was a win for the band, who was forced to
cancel their performance in 2012 amid a massive downpour that
led to the festival's evacuation.
