The long awaited 10th release
in the multiple-Grammy Award-winning Paul McCartney Archive Collection
has been confirmed: On
March 24, 2017, Paul's 1989
international #1 album, Flowers In The Dirt, will be the
latest classic solo work from one of the world's most revered
catalogues to get the special treatment across a multi-format
reissue released by MPL/Capitol/UMe.
The Paul McCartney Archive Collection release of Flowers In
The Dirt was, as always, personally supervised by Paul himself.
One of the most critically acclaimed albums of the eighties, nominated
for both BRIT and Grammy Awards, Flowers In The Dirt saw
Paul team up with Elvis Costello to co-write a third of the album
('My Brave Face', 'You Want Her Too', 'Don't Be Careless Love'
and 'That Day is Done') as well as boasting production credits
from producers such as Mitchell Froom, Trevor Horn, David Foster,
Steve Lipson, Elvis Costello and Paul himself. Pink Floyd
guitar legend David Gilmour makes an appearance on 'We Got Married'
and George Martin's string arrangement on 'Put It There' is amongst
the many album highlights.
The Flowers
In The Dirt Deluxe Edition Box Set
will undoubtedly be yet another crown jewel in the collection
of any Paul McCartney fan. In addition to its wealth of audio
and video content, exclusive features of the Deluxe Edition include
a 32-page notebook of Paul's handwritten lyrics and notes, a catalogue
for Linda McCartney's 1989 Flowers In The Dirt photo exhibition,
a 64 page photobook featuring the music videos for 'This One',
and a stunning, custom-created 112-page book telling the complete
story of the album through exclusive in-depth interviews with
Paul, Elvis Costello and other key contributors. Along with expanded
track-by-track information, the book contains album and single
artwork as well as previously unpublished photographs by Linda
McCartney.
Sessions for Flowers In The Dirt began in 1987 and the
majority of the album was recorded at Paul's Hog Hill Mill studio
in East Sussex. During the sessions Costello convinced Paul to
dig out his iconic Höfner bass for the first time in years
- a suggestion McCartney recalls as, "unusual because
I had sort of parked it. I had thought I had outgrown it. I started
playing it again and never really looked back. It's great that
Elvis encouraged me to take it out." In preparation
for his first major world tour in years Paul was looking to capture
songs he could take on the road with him. Paul told his band that
he wouldn't go out on tour unless he really liked the album. Looking
back Paul recalls, "You're always thinking, 'Let's get
some new songs and take them on tour' and you hope your new songs
are going to work. Something like 'My Brave Face' would be a song
that nobody knew at the start at the beginning of the tour and
then everybody knew it at the end and it was the high spot of
the whole tour."
The original 13-track album
was remastered for all the new configurations at Abbey Road Studios.
The Deluxe
Edition contains 18 bonus audio tracks across two discs, featuring previously unreleased demos,
written and performed by Paul with Elvis Costello. Speaking about
these tracks Paul said: "The demos are red hot off the
skillet and that's why we wanted to include them on this boxed
set. What's great about these songs is that they've just been
written. So there's nothing more hot off the skillet as I say.
So that was the kind of great instant thing about them. I hadn't
listened to them in ages but when I did I knew we had to put them
out. We made a little tape of them and sent them to Elvis, who
loved them too. We said we should put out an EP or something and
now the moment's finally arrived."
The Deluxe Edition also includes, as digital downloads only, three
unheard cassette demos, 'I Don't Want To Confess', 'Shallow Grave'
and 'Mistress And Maid' as well as a collection of original B-sides,
remixes and single edits.
The DVD that
comes with the Deluxe Edition
includes all the music videos from the album, three new short
films with unseen archive material that show some of the creation
process of the album and the documentary 'Put It There' originally
released on VHS in 1989 a behind-the-scenes look at the
making of Flowers In The Dirt as well as featuring live
performances from his 1989 World Tour.
The 2 CD Special
Edition includes the remastered
version of the album on the first disc. The second disc includes
Paul and Elvis's previously unreleased original demos.
The 2 LP Edition also comes with a digital download version.
The first LP includes the remastered album but in keeping with
the original vinyl release doesn't include 'Où Est Le Soleil?'
(this track will be available with the accompanying digital download).
The second LP includes Paul and Elvis's previously unreleased
original demos.

Congrats to veteran Chicago photographer and musician Jorie Gracen and her band The PondHawks - still at No. 1 on Music World Radio (UK), after five weeks, (total 13 weeks @ #1) with their song "Drive." The song is from the band's second album, "Dreaming Over Ireland," and has received wide airplay on Internet radio stations both here and abroad.
Chicago's
#1 Indie band, The PondHawks, have captured the attention of Euro
Indie radio with their new song "Drive".
Chicago,
IL (PRWEB)
Chicago's #1 Indie band has
taken their song to the top of the Euro Indie charts. After being
nominated for "DRIVE" on Music World Radio (UK),
the band entered at #1 (for 13 weeks) on the station's Top 20
Alternative Songs Chart. A feat MWR says not many artists have
achieved.
The PondHawks' appeal is that they have a sound like no other band. They stand out from the current crop of Indie and Top 40 artists because their music has an edge. The band's music is influenced by a variety of classic rock legends and has a unique musical quality of its own. Carved with a signature sound that echoes The Beatles, ELO and Wings, The PondHawks have transformed their music into a retro, infused, 'now' sound. You won't hear a song in their catalog that sounds like the last one. What you will hear is a band that can be easily identified by their music. A refreshing change and bold move by an unsigned band that refuses to follow today's trend.
Mario Novelli and Jorie Gracen
founded the band back in 2007 and together, write, produce, record,
and perform their own music. Outstanding, male/female vocal harmonies
give The PondHawks' music a rich brilliance. Every song has a
catchy melody accompanied by dazzling hooks. Songs are peppered
with 'secret ear candy' that can only be heard with headphones
a treat for the 80,000 plus fans of the band.
The PondHawks are storytellers. They write about love, romance,
life, dreams and beauty, but they also embrace life's struggles
pain, disillusionment and loss through their own personal
experiences. Songs are poetically rich with expression and thought.
No words are ever wasted.
The meanings of songs have many interpretations for the listener,
and that is deliberate. Their finely crafted lyrics are meant
to evoke more than one meaning. At times you may hear a double-entendre
a clever, but subtle invitation to listen to songs over
and over.
In March 2010, the band released their critically acclaimed debut
album The
PondHawks Have Landed, which still receives radio airplay
in the U.S.A. and Europe. The album placed in several Top 100
Contemporary Albums of the Year charts, taking the #7 spot on
the Top 10 Regional Albums list for the Chicagoland area. The
PondHawks Have Landed was a personal pick by music critic,
Tom Lounges of the Northwest Indiana Times, who compiled the year-end
list.
In May of 2012, The PondHawks released a five-song EP called Dreaming
Over Ireland. The title track is a lyrical maze of scenarios,
shrouded in mystery and intrigue. The song begins softly, and
builds to a techno crescendo. Then it erupts into a burst of keyboards,
drums, and guitar licks, paving the way for Gracen and Novelli's
sparkling vocals. The surprise comes when the song morphs into
a spirited and infectious rocker, climaxing with an outro that
will have you singing and dancing.
"Drive" is a song that unleashes its own fury, portraying
a couple's struggle through clever musical innuendos. Gracen and
Novelli depict a rocky relationship that has gone sour. "Drive"
has an edge, a grudge, and an attitude. The gritty organ solos
have a maniacal charm. Catchy guitar riffs meander throughout,
culminating in a riveting power chord that crashes into overdrive.
Like many of The PondHawks' songs, "Drive's" frenetic
music creates atmosphere and emotion the perfect marriage
of lyrics and music and a number one hit.
The PondHawks are currently working on their highly anticipated
third album, which will be out in 2016.

Maccazine is a hard copy magazine (a bound paperback book) about Paul McCartney. Published 3 times per year. As the Internet took over the world and the latest Paul McCartney news could be found on hundreds of websites, we made the decision to focus on creating a paper magazine about Paul McCartney.
The final part of the NEW trilogy. We continue our huge Timeline for the 2011 2014 period in October 2013. This is the month of the worldwide release of McCartney's album NEW and the start of a huge media campaign to let the people know all about it. Paul appears in print, on the net, on TV and live on stage.
In this SPECIAL an additional twelve pages to include all information and add interesting pictures you can track Paul's activities for the rest of 2013 and all of 2014.
While doing research for McCartney's latest studio record we started compiling a Timeline, just to find out when he had the time to work on the album. We started with Paul & Nancy's wedding in early October 2011, because that was the time he also met producer Mark Ronson who was hired (for free) to DJ the reception party and we ended with the release of Only One, Macca's collaboration with Kanye West on the last day of 2014. Between these events this Timeline tells the story of not only NEW (recording release reviews promotion performing songs of the album in concerts), but also what other projects kept McCartney busy. And busy he was and still is!
ABOUT THIS
ISSUE - 'RAM' PART 1

Collection on November 3, 2014 (UK), and November 4, 2014 (US).

formats:

never been seen before.
Vinyl: The albums are available on special gatefold
vinyl editions (vinyl editions include a download card).

The Speed Of Sound are available as both standard and deluxe
versions including Mastered for iTunes and Hi-Res formats.
Wings are one of the most successful
acts the UK has ever produced, achieving no less than 14 US Top
10 hits and 12 Top 10 hits in the UK. Following 1973's Band
on the Run the mid '70s were a commercial heyday for Wings.
Venus and Mars, the band's fourth studio album was released
in May 1975 ahead of the legendary 'Wings Over The World' tour.
Preceded by the US Number One single 'Listen To What The Man Said',
Venus and Mars hit the Number One spot in the album charts
on both sides of the Atlantic and went on to sell over 4 million
copies worldwide to date. At The Speed Of Sound was recorded
in the midst of the same tour and released in March 1976. In the
US it enjoyed the same chart success as its predecessor. Including
the international smash hit single 'Silly Love Songs', the album
went on to become Paul's most successful American chart album
spending seven consecutive weeks at Number One. In the UK it charted
at Number Two, narrowly missing out on the top spot. Sales to
date exceed 3.5 million worldwide.
As with all the Archive Collection, Paul has personally supervised
all aspects of the reissues. The remastering work was done
at Abbey Road by the same team who have worked on all the reissues
as well as The Beatles' catalogue.
Since launching the Paul McCartney Archive Collection in 2010
Paul has received two GRAMMY Awards for the releases. In
2012 he picked up 'Best Historical Album' for Band on the Run
and this year Wings over America picked up an award ('Best
Boxed or Special Edition Package') on the same night that Paul
set a personal best by picking up five awards in just one night.
In 2013 RAM was nominated for 'Best Historical Album'.
Other titles released to date in the Paul McCartney Archive Collection
are Band on the Run, McCartney, McCartney II,
RAM and Wings over America.

Something new from Paul McCartney's international hit album NEW
NEW release
as special 2CD & DVD Collector's Edition in a hard bound book
featuring bonus content including behind the scenes footage, music
videos, live recordings, album documentary and previously unreleased
tracks
Released in October 2013,
NEW was greeted with rave reviews all around the world. In both
the UK and US it entered the Album Charts at Number Three. Within
months it had sold almost quarter-of-a-million copies in America
alone and counting. NEW also went Top 10 in 17 different countries
including a Number One position in the Japanese charts. Since
its release it has achieved Silver sales status in territories
including UK and France, Gold status in Japan and Platinum in
Russia, to name just a few international sales achievements.
This special collector's edition is packed full with exclusive content that tells the story of the making of the album as well as capturing unique moments during the international promotion campaign, which saw Paul make global headlines by creating traffic stopping moments in the US and UK with pop up performances in New York and London.
Channeling the spirit of adventure that has forever characterised McCartney's approach to making music, NEW was born out of his collaboration with a bunch of young British producers whose records he rated. Paul Epworth, who had enormous, Oscar-winning success writing with Adele on her album 21 and on their James Bond theme Skyfall. There was Mark Ronson, the DJ/musician who had helped the late Amy Winehouse create the classic Back To Black. And there were Ethan Johns, the son of Beatles engineer Glyn and himself a renowned producer, and Giles Martin, son of Sir George and a previous collaborator with The Beatles on the Las Vegas theatrical production Love.
The original idea for the then-untitled project was that Paul would work on a few songs with each, see who he felt most comfortable with and inspired by, and proceed with that producer. But such was the flood of ideas, and so strong were the songs pouring from Paul's fingertips, that he decided to take the best of all worlds: he'd work with all four producers. The result was one of the most ambitious and acclaimed efforts of Paul's solo career-an album hailed by Rolling Stone as "the music of eternal youth energized and full of joyous rock & roll invention" as its title track, 'Queenie Eye', 'Save Us' and 'Everybody Out There' quickly became staples of the McCartney live set.
This story is perfectly told in Paul's own words as well as those of the producers in Something New, a documentary about NEW directed by Don Letts, which features on the DVD.
The release of NEW saw Paul and his band perform a variety of intimate concerts along with some surprise huge events for good measure. This special edition relives some of the highlights including the opening of the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas, a Hollywood Boulevard performance, pop up shows in New York and London, an intimate album Q&A filmed at The Shard in London, two concerts in one day at BBC's iconic Maida Vale Studios, chat show performances and footage of Paul bringing London's Oxford Street to a standstill at a signing session at HMV's flagship store.
CD 1 tracklisting
is the same as the original 14 track deluxe edition released last
year.
CD 2 includes two previously unreleased tracks ('Hell To Pay'
and 'Demons Dance') taken from the album recording sessions as
well featuring 'Struggle' which was previously released as a Japanese
bonus track. The second CD also includes live versions of 'Save
Us', 'New', 'Queenie Eye' and 'Everybody Out There' recorded at
the Tokyo Dome, Japan in November of last year.
Along with the documentary and a collection of behind-the-scenes footage from Paul's international promotional trail, the DVD also features the music videos for 'Queenie Eye', 'Save Us', 'Appreciate' and 'Early Days'. Also included is footage from the making of the 'Queenie Eye', 'Appreciate' and 'Early Days' videos.

MEETING A BEATLE
This actually happened.
Yesterday I was at a rehearsal with David Crosby in LA. He and his band are getting ready for the tour that starts next week. Partway through the rehearsal, David stepped outside for some air. A blue Corvette pulled up and the window went down. The driver was Paul McCartney.
"Hello, guys," he said, smiling.
It was one of those moments where time seemed to stand still. The day before, while flying to LA, I watched Ron Howard's new film "Eight Days a Week," a masterful tribute to The Beatles that shows how Paul, John, George and Ringo became the biggest musical stars in history. And there I was, face to face with one of them.
Turns out Paul was rehearsing in the studio next to David's. A couple hours later, he invites David and his band to join him in studio. I follow David. Paul greets everyone. Then he and his band go right into "Junior's Farm."
You should have seen me with
the poker man
I had a honey and I bet a grand
Just in the nick of time I looked at his hand
Let's go, let's go, let's go,
let's go
Down to Junior's farm where I wanna lay low
These guys are jamming and I am one of a handful of people in a studio. My feet are tapping and the hair is up on my arms. The only thing I can compare this to would be having Babe Ruth show up at my Little League game and saying he'd like to take a few swings.
But not even the Babe makes you want to twist and shout.
Next, Paul sung "Drive My Car."
Asked a girl what she wanted
to be
She said baby, can't you see
I want to be famous, a star on the screen
But you can do something in between
Baby you can drive my car
Yes I'm gonna be a star
Baby you can drive my car
And maybe I'll love you
When he got to the signature
line "Beep Beep'm Beep Beep, Yeah," I was struck
by the fact that people around the globe in Russia, Australia,
South America, Iceland can sing "Beep beep'm, beep
beep, yeah." Paul and John wrote lyrics that became a universal
language. It's a language that puts smiles on people's faces.
What a gift!
Then he played one of the happiest songs I know "Ob-La-Di,
Ob-La-Da."
Desmond has a barrow in the
marketplace
Molly is the singer in a band
Desmond says to Molly girl I like your face
And Molly says this as she takes him by the hand
Smiling as he played, he looked at us and invited us to sing along.
Ob la di ob la da life goes
on bra
La la how the life goes on
Ob la di ob la da life goes on bra
La la how the life goes on
It is one of the most surreal moments of my life. I'm actually singing along with Paul McCartney. Ob la di, ob la da, life goes on.
David Crosby has given me one of the most memorable moments of my life a private audience with the man whose music has shaped so much of the culture that was my upbringing.
In Beatlefan #224, Allan Kozinn examines the strange case of the late Magic Alex, the controversial Beatle friend from the Apple era who, in later years, had a sideline of suing those who called him a charlatan.
