Paul McCartney to return to the iconic Budokan, Tokyo?

Sir Paul McCartney
is rumored to be making a trip back to Tokyo, Japan, to play the iconic Nippon Budokan 48 years after The Beatles were the first musicians to play the venue amid a barrage of protests from Japanese nationalists.

The Beatles played a series of shows at the Budokan in June and July 1966, however their appearances were met with strong opposition from those who felt the appearance of a western pop group would defile the martial arts arena. Since The Beatles set the precedent, many musicians have played there. McCartney has sporadically toured Japan over the years, most recently in November 2013, however he has never returned to the unique venue.

The source, with contacts on the inside of Macca's touring circle, said: "He's wanted to play the Budokan for a while. I don't think he could work it into his schedule while he was in Japan last November, but I think it's more of a viable option now that is definitely being considered." Although the source was quick to add: "One thing fans must remember is that nothing is official until is it confirmed by the man himself!"

The Budokan rumor comes as McCartney resumes his Out There tour, with a number of South American shows already been confirmed. Sadly with every South American show confirmed and rumor reported, word of any UK/Europe shows are slowly but surely fading, once again leaving fans increasingly baffled and frustrated by his neglect.

Paul McCartney Kicks Off Everyone Matters Day Campaign

Credit/Copyright: Everyone Matters

As London, Los Angeles, Dublin, Washington DC, Seattle, San Francisco, Atlanta, Minneapolis, Memphis, Dallas and other cities in the U.S. and the globe get set for the 1st Everyone Matters Day on April 2, Sir Paul McCartney has kicked off the #IAM campaign with his selfie affirming: "I AM A SCOUSER."

#IAM is about affirming and owning WHO WE ARE, AS WE ARE as part of Everyone Matters, a global campaign bringing together local governments, public figures, organizations, schools and global citizens advocating for everyone's right to dignity and respect, and to be allowed to be who they are without judgment, shame or attack including ourselves.

Credit/Copyright: Everyone Matters

Sir Paul McCartney is one of the inaugural global figures who has supported the exploding global campaign of dignity and respect, which launched in 2012. The inspirational quote he offered when he joined the campaign was a signature line "Live and let live" from his 1973 Wings' song, "Live and Let Die," which was used as the theme song of the eponymous James Bond film. "Live and let live" encapsulates the message of Everyone Matters.

A cultural phenomenon, Everyone Matters has quickly grown through social media and in local communities to a following of 165,000 on Facebook and a Google search engine footprint of 70 million.

An estimated 75 to 100 schools in the U.S. and beyond will have organized "Everyone Matters Day" for 2013-2014 many on April 2, with such activities as the "I Am!" pride-in-identity PhotoBooth and VideoWall, where students hold up hand-written signs proclaiming anything about themselves they want to affirm; the "24-Hour Challenge" to not judge in thought or action for the entire day; and the "Letting Go of Judgment Tree" or "Act of Kindness Tree," in which students collectively share names they've been called, or called others, and then "let it go," or record moments of kindness to others.

The cities and states participating in the first global "Everyone Matters Day" www.everyonemattersday.com with official proclamations and resolutions commemorating "Everyone Matters Day" and affirming everyone's right to be who they are, without judgment are London, Dublin, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Dallas, Washington DC, Atlanta, Minneapolis, Memphis, Portland, Phoenix, Denver and the State of Maine.

On April 2, 2014, people from around the world will upload their selfies on social media to affirm anything about themselves that they want to proclaim from a personality trait, to what they like, where they live, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion. Anything that says who they are, as they are. The concurrent action is #WhyYouMatter and #YouMatter2Me to appreciate and affirm others for who they are.

The global leaders who support the humanitarian message of Everyone Matters, and have penned personal statements for the campaign, are: Sir Paul McCartney, Ellen DeGeneres, George Clooney, General Colin Powell, Kevin Spacey, Hugh Jackman, Tom Brokaw, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Nicole Kidman, Daniel Craig, London Mayor Boris Johnson, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Nick Clooney and Nina Clooney, Natalie Portman, New York Police Commissioner Bill Bratton, craigslist founder Craig Newmark, Jeff Skoll, Debra Messing, Mary Tyler Moore, Sean Hepburn Ferrer, Bernadette Peters, Christina Aguilera, Deepak Chopra, Dame Judi Dench, Betty White, Fran Drescher and Chris Kluwe.

The power and success of Everyone Matters is its humanistic, universal yet personal approach. The campaign advocates on behalf of everyone's right to be who they are, regardless of gender, age, weight, skin color, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, physical limitations combined with the intertwined message that affirms pride in identity.

Leading organizations supporting Everyone Matters include The Special Olympics, The Desmond Tutu Peace Centre, Association of American Colleges and Universities, NAACP, National Association of Secondary School Principals, The Museum of Tolerance, Association of American People with Disabilities, National Organization of Women, UN Women National Committee United States, GLAAD, The Trevor Project, Human Rights Campaign, USC Shoah Foundation Institute, Student Affairs Administrators, Equality Now, National Hispanic Media Coalition, MTV's ATHIN LINE Campaign, National Partnership for Women & Families, Asian American Justice Center, Network National Catholic Social Justice Lobby.

The Everyone Matters campaign was founded by social entrepreneur and journalist HeathCliff Rothman, whose previous social media civic engagement campaign was Film Your Issue (FYI). FYI was an issue-driven short film competition with a stellar roster of media partners and jurists that included then-Senator Barack Obama, Walter Cronkite, George Clooney, Anderson Cooper, Tom Brokaw, Philip Seymour Hoffman, as well as YouTube, Microsoft, Yahoo!, MSNBC, MySpace, AOL, MTV and others.

Living the good life: Socialite Nancy Shevell tops up her tan as she holidays in St. Barts without Sir Paul McCartney

She was recently spotted with husband Sir Paul McCartney in a New York City gripped by freezing cold February temperatures

But a lot can happen in a month, and socialite Nancy Shevell appeared to be enjoying warmer climes and picturesque surroundings on Tuesday as she stepped out in sunny St. Barts.

The 53-year-old is currently enjoying a stay on the French West Indian island with friends, and she made the most of the balmy conditions by venturing out in a suitably seasonal ensemble.

Nancy opted for an orange striped shirt over her black bikini as she padded across the sand in a pair of sandals while absently checking her mobile phone.

The New York based businesswoman rounded off her look with a pair of obligatory shades, whole a distinctive Fedora with a bold black band gave her some much needed shade.

Nancy was later spotted reclining on her sun lounger, a pair of black Beats headphones covering her ears as she topped up her tan.

The wealthy American is without former Beatle Paul during her current holiday on the idyllic island, which recently played host to supermodel Kate Moss and billionaire retail magnate Sir Phillip Green who used it as a backdrop for his 62nd birthday celebrations.

Paul married Nancy his third wife in front of 30 close friends and family member during a civil ceremony at Old Marylebone Town Hall in 2011.

The couple enjoyed a stay in St. Barts last December, with Paul, 71, frolicking in the Caribbean waters close to their luxury hotel.

That appearance followed reports that they were viewing new properties in New York City.

Saturday, May 17th -- National Stadium, Tokyo
Sunday, May 18th -- National Stadium, Tokyo
Saturday, May 24th -- Yanmar Stadium Nagai -- Osaka

Following an incredible 2013 which saw Paul's critically acclaimed 'Out There' tour launch in Brazil and visit 23 cities across South America, Europe, North America and end here in Japan, today Paul confirms he'll be coming back to Japan this May.

The 'Out There' tour travelled through Japan last November seeing Paul and his band perform six sold out historic shows in Osaka, Fukuoka and Tokyo to a collective audience of over 260,000. This year Paul will return for his first outdoor stadium shows in Japan.

The 'Out There' tour features music from one of the best loved catalogues in popular music. Paul will perform songs that span his entire career - as a solo artist, member of Wings and of course as a Beatle. The set list will also include material from Paul's most recent studio album NEW, which was a global hit upon its release last year.

The McCartney live experience is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity; in just three hours some of the greatest moments from the last 50 years of music are relived; music which for many has shaped the very soundtrack of their lives. The last decade has seen Paul and his band perform in a staggeringly impressive range of venues and locations, including outside the Coliseum in Rome, in Moscow's Red Square, Buckingham Palace, at the White House, a free show in Mexico to over 400,000 people and even into Space! Having played with his band (Paul 'Wix' Wickens (keyboards), Brian Ray (bass guitar/guitar), Rusty Anderson (guitar) and Abe Laboriel Jr (drums)) for over ten years now, the show never disappoints.

The tour also uses state-of-the-art technology and production to ensure the entire audience has the best possible experience. With massive screens, lasers, fireworks, unique video content and the best songs in the world a Paul McCartney show is so much more than just an ordinary concert. Paul's shows attract a multi generational audience from different backgrounds all brought together by his music.

2014 got off to an incredible start for Paul as he set a personal career best by winning an incredible five GRAMMY Awards in one night. In the UK he was honoured by music bible NME with a special one off award, the 'Songwriter's Songwriter Award' chosen for this unique accolade by his fellow peers.

Beatles items removed from Adelphi auction after Macca legal challenge
Items thought to have been given to the Beatle's former housekeeper Rose Martin by Linda McCartney

Clothes and a scrap of paper previously belonging to Sir Paul McCartney were withdrawn from an auction after the singer launched a legal challenge over their ownership.

The cape, suit and paper with three lines of lyrics on were due to go under the hammer at the Omega Auctions sale at the Adelphi Hotel on Thursday.

The items were understood to have been given to the Beatle 's former housekeeper Rose Martin by Linda McCartney about 30 years ago.

After Mrs Martin's death last year, her family decided to sell the items to provide inheritance for her grandchildren. They hoped to raise about £30,000 ($49,459) by selling the goods.

But they were withdrawn from sale after Sir Paul and his legal team stepped in to challenge the ownership of them.

Auctioneer Paul Fairweather said: "Unfortunately the lawyers have claimed that Paul would never have given any clothing away.

"Rose always told the family that it was Linda that had given them to her but as both have unfortunately passed away neither story can be corroborated

He added: "At the end of the day we've got to make sure that according to the law we give them back to their rightful owner, be that Rose's family or Sir Paul McCartney and MPL Communications.

"Our Beatles catalogue has been up and online for a number of weeks now so we can only apologise to any buyers who were hoping to bid on these items."

The cape was valued at between £10,000 ($16,486) and £15,000 ($24,729), while the suit was estimated to be worth £10,000 ($16,486).

The piece of paper ("Arrow Through Me") with the lyrics "Baby -- you couldn't have done a worse thing to me, if you'd taken an arrow and run it right through me", was valued at £1,000 ($1,648) to £2,000 ($3,297).

Mrs Martin's grandchildren had used the clothes for dressing up from the 80s.

When the housekeeper and nanny to Sir Paul's children died last year the star posted a message on his website.

He wrote: "We had sad news recently that our dear friend Rose Martin passed away at the age of 92.

"Rose was my housekeeper since the early 60s and for many years looked after us and our children.

"She was a very classy lady with a mischievous sense of humour.

"She was fiercely loyal and our family and many friends will miss her dearly."

A spokesman for Sir Paul said he did not wish to comment.

The auction went ahead with 230 other lots on offer including Ringo and George's jackets from "Help!" and the piano that Sir Paul composed "Yesterday" on.

Butler for Tom Hanks, Robbie Williams, Sir Paul McCartney and the Queen looks back on his career

He has been a butler for Tom Hanks, Bob Dylan, Robbie Williams, the Saudi royals and the Queen.

But it was meeting his musical hero
Sir Paul McCartney which left George Telford star struck.

"Because I grew up in the era of The Beatles, when first met him I was star struck. It was a dream to meet such a talented musician", he said.

The proud Scot, who is head butler at the Poets House Hotel in Ely and Paddocks House Hotel in Newmarket, has during his illustrious career racked up more than 30 years of service.

The 59 year-old, who was inspired to become a butler by watching 1970s TV show Upstairs Downstairs, bristles at the suggestion that being a butler is demeaning.

He said: "I'm very proud to be a butler. Being a butler is not demeaning to anyone. We are not slaves. We are a respected part of the community.

"What we do is provide a service, which is what hospitality is all about. No is not a word in my vocabulary.

"It can be tiring because you are on call 24/7 but it is very rewarding."

As part of his role as head butler, he is constantly at his guest's beck and call.

He said: "We welcome the guest to the hotel, provide them with a private check in and then take them up to their room. We can also offer them a tour of the hotel.

"We can bring them up afternoon tea, take care of their dinner requirements and run them a bath.

"In the morning, we can bring them breakfast on a tray and a newspaper, all with a smile on our face and a good morning.

"The key is to build a relationship of trust with the guest."

When you are a butler, presentation and performance are everything, George says.

"Like anything in hospitality you have got to dress for the part. Then it is like theatre.

"Once you leave your room and meet the guest you are on stage. It is important you play the role well.

"If you manage this, it doesn't matter if the guest is male or female; they will accept you and be eating out of the palm of your hand."

One of George's most recent assignments was for Robbie Williams and his family in Scotland.

He decided it would be fitting to introduce the singer and his family to a true Scottish delicacy.

He said: "Robbie Williams was in the garden of a hotel in Scotland so I came out with a silver cloche and offered him, his lovely wife and his beautiful baby a deep fried Mars bar, which they accepted and thoroughly enjoyed.

"Serving people in the entertainment industry is not an easy job because they sleep all day and are out all night, but it is a pleasure.

"They live different lives but as people are no different to any of us."

Another famous person George has served is the American actor Tom Hanks, for whom he holds great admiration.

He said: "Tom Hanks would often come on board the yacht I worked on and I have worked for him privately.

"He is a great guy, a father figure first and actor second.

"He is a gentleman who in real life is just like the characters he plays on screen.

"I have been fortunate in my career that I have never been approached by anyone in a rude manner.

"I've always been treated and rewarded well."

George is in the middle of writing his memoirs, which he says "will share a bit of gossip", but he insists the key to being a butler is discretion.

"A butler sees everything but is very careful of what he tells others. Discretion is key."

by Craig Playstead

"Everywhere I Go People Are Happy"

You open the door and quickly slide into another forgettable Starbucks to escape the rain and an audible gasp emits from the packed store. After realizing they're not dreaming, the group breaks into a frantic applause.

All because you walked in for mediocre cup of coffee.

Faces light up like Christmas trees, camera phones are out so fast you'd think they were in holsters and one woman in her 50's is crying. This'll be a story she tells for the rest of her life. It doesn't matter if the person you encounter is a regular Joe in the men's room or the President of the United States, the reaction is always the same: they can't believe it's actually you.

This is how Paul McCartney has lived every day for the past 50 years.

Can you imagine people reacting to you like this, every day? It would flip your brain inside-out and seriously warp your sense of reality. It would turn you into a monster. Or at least someone whose self-importance is so off the charts they lose touch with what it means to be a real person. It's happening to Justin Bieber right now, and I don't have to tell you it's not going well. And with Paul, it's Bieber times ten. No one could handle this for a month, let alone for the past 50 years. Except for him.

A-list celebrities who duck people for sport on a daily basis are turned into giggling school girls and teenage boys with crushes when they see McCartney. We've all dreamed about being famous, and those who've had this dream come true talk about how it consumes them. Especially when they're out with their kids, or just want to grab a sandwich. It killed Kurt Cobain. It would have killed me in my 20's to go from living in an old house that leaned too far to the left with five other guys, to international super-stardom where I gave hope to an entire generation who grew up in a broken home. It's a lot of pressure, especially if you don't have the tool to deal with it like Kurt. It's too much for almost everyone on this planet, except for, well, Paul McCartney.

How does he deal with it? Well, a story first. I was listening to the WTF podcast by comedian Marc Maron, and he was interviewing one of my favorite people in the world, Dave Grohl. They were talking about Dave's incredible documentary, Sound City (the best movie I saw last year) when the conversation steered toward the time Grohl spent in the studio recording with Paul McCartney for the movie. Few musicians are more famous than Dave right now, and he was giddy and blown away working with Sir Paul. He said it was an entire day of his life flashing before his eyes, but in a good way. McCartney was the entire reason he ever played music.

The conversation downshifted to how anything gets done when people are so starstruck. Literally every person working on the record from the musicians to the engineers were, at one point in their youth influenced listening to The Beatles laying on shag carpet while a 45 spun on their record player. Then clarity came when Dave explained how Paul McCartney is so damn good at being Paul McCartney.

"He gets it." Grohl said. "He understands how you feel when you meet him, and he let's you know you're ok. He's a wonderful person, and totally understands his role in the universe. In a very realistic sense."

How many of us understand our role in the Universe? Hands please.

To add a little more context to Dave's explanation, a rock journalist who interviewed McCartney asked about this phenomenon that everywhere he goes, people go bat-sh*t. The former Beatle remarked on how great it was.

"It's one of the great luxuries of my life. Everywhere I go, people are happy."

Wow. You could see it during the big 50th Anniversary Beatles celebration on CBS a couple weeks ago. Every star who played a Beatles song was looking for validation from McCartney, and he was happy to give it whether he they butchered the song or not. And many did (including Ringo). He understood how happy those musicians were to play those incredible songs that only get better with age, and how much it meant to them.

So, in a world where it's all about him, Paul McCartney makes it about you. And if you step back and look at it, this is the only way to handle a level of fame that maybe a handful of people in the past 50 years have ever attained. You don't fight fame that intense, you embrace the feeling it has on others.

In a time where celebrities are epic disasters, the biggest one on the planet is teaching us all about how to be happy and deal with people: make life about them, not you. Maybe, in time he could have taught Kurt that instead of fighting the wave, he should have been riding it.

Probably good advice for all of us.

Paul McCartney: 'We're A Real Band'

The stretch of fine albums Paul McCartney has released in the last decade or so, which includes last year's 'New,' can possibly be attribute to having worked with the same musicians. In a new interview, he speaks highly of the four men who have comprised his touring band since 2002.

"I trust the guys," McCartney told KCSN. "They know what I'm going to do, I know what they are going to do. We surprise each other - and even if it's like, 'I didn't know you were going to do that,' we can all follow it. That's the great thing with a band. And all of us just come to play music. There's no other thing on the agenda. We just love playing together."

Something Else! notes that, with 12 years in his employ, Brian Ray, Rusty Anderson, Paul "Wix" Wickens and Abe Laboriel, Jr., have now played with McCartney for a longer period of time than The Beatles (1962-70) and Wings (which only had three constant members in its decade together). Wickens has been with McCartney since he returned to the road in 1989. McCartney admitted that the time they've spent together kind of snuck up on him.

"A couple of years ago, I kind of looked at them and said: 'You know what guys? We're a band. We're a real band,'" he continued. "I think up until then we'd just been thinking: 'We're getting together, and playing some songs.' But we're a band now - and that elevated our performance, I think. When we realized that, we sort of felt so much better about what we were doing."

McCartney may come to Seoul

A Korean entertainment company said Friday it was seeing progress in talks with
Sir Paul McCartney for a concert in Seoul in May. The former Beatles member performing here would mark a major event as the band, which never played in the country before it folded, continues to be arguably the country s favorite foreign music group.

Organizers at 9 Entertainment have already filed papers to the Korea Sports Promotion Foundation, the manager of state-built sporting facilities, to rent the Jamsil Olympic Stadium in southern Seoul on May 28 for the potential concert.

"Renting the venue is a process we have to go through when preparing for the performance of any artist. We are in talks to land (McCartney's) concert here, although the agreement isn t finalized yet," said an official from 9 Entertainment.

A representative from the Korean unit of the Universal Music International Group, McCartney's label, said he had received no information from headquarters about a potential performance here.

"The talks for setting up concerts usually take place between the artist and management people," he said.

"We haven't heard anything official, so we aren t in a position to confirm this.

Beatles fans here expressed disappointment last year when McCartney included Japan in his touring destination to promote his latest album, "New," but not Korea.

As a member of the Beatles, McCartney has been credited for writing many of the band s iconic songs along with the late
John Lennon, such as, "Hey Jude," "Yesterday" and "Let It Be."

McCartney was knighted in 1997 by Queen Elizabeth II for his lifetime contribution to culture and humanitarian work.

Paul McCartney to Score Animated Film

Rather than rest on his laurels following the success of his most recent album, 'New,' Paul McCartney has apparently already started work on another project. He will be doing the music for an upcoming animated movie.

Acccording to Billboard, the former Beatle called into Los Angeles' KCSN, which is listener-supported and run out of California State University's Northridge campus, to thank them for their support of his music and broke the news. However, McCartney divulged neither the name of the movie nor the studio, but he did say, "It's like being a kid getting to play with some of the most creative people in the world" in reference to the experience.

Even outside of the Beatles movies and the song 'Spies Like Us,' McCartney is no stranger to film music. His 1967 score for 'The Family Way' was the first solo project by a Beatle, even though it was credited to the George Martin Orchestra. He also composed the music for the 1984 film 'Give My Regards to Broad Street,' which he also starred in and wrote.

The hour-long conversation, which can be heard at KCSN's website, also touched upon the recent slate of tributes commemmorating the 50th anniversary of The Beatles arrival in America, and his connection to his current band. The interview was conducted by programming director Sky Daniels, who admitted to "fighting back tears" while speaking to him.

"When Paul McCartney's friends sing the praises of KCSN and he feels compelled to listen and reach out to say thanks," he said. "It validates the support of our members and the hard work of our staff. It really is a statement that radio can still touch hearts and minds, even those of the greatest songwriter of our time."

Linda McCartney: Life Through A Lens

This month's Vogue iPad app features a very special film shot by Glen Luchford to accompany his fashion story styled by Jane How, "Life Through a Lens". The exclusive shoot was inspired by the Seventies wardrobe of Linda McCartney, and includes pieces from Linda's own archive - so nothing seemed more appropriate than using a soundtrack by Paul McCartney. When Vogue initially showed the shoot to him, the musician reportedly nearly cried with nostalgia. Consequently, his song, Maybe I'm Amazed, is the accompanying track.

"Watching the Linda film by Glen and Jane blew me away," said Stella McCartney. "It was as if Mum had come alive in images I had seen as a child. He has captured her free spirit and inner beauty, but the fact that he met her I think shows the impression she left on him.''

Download the Vogue iPad app now to see the full film, and remember, this month you'll enjoy a free copy of Miss Vogue with even more videos and animations for all the fashion world fun you've come to expect from Vogue.

Paul McCartney has special dish made for him

Sir Paul McCartney
had a special dish made for him at a restaurant in Hollywood.

The vegetarian Please Please Me singer and his wife, Nancy Shevell, ate with his former The Beatles bandmate Ringo Starr and his spouse, Barbara Bach, at upmarket eatery Il Piccolino, but when he couldn't decide what he wanted from the menu, the owner took him to speak to the chef and they came up with an appetising dish.

A source said: "The owner, a friend, escorted the ex-Beatle into the kitchen where Paul - who loves to cook - watched intently as the chef prepared veggies chosen by the star."

The star was then thrilled when he even got a special extra treat with his dinner - the recipe written out just for him.

The source added to National Enquirer magazine: "Paul went back to his table and was thrilled when his repast arrived, complete with the chef's handwritten recipe."

Paul has previously spoken of how much he enjoys the "creative" vegetarian food options available in restaurants.

He said: "Even 20 years ago, it could sometimes be difficult to find vegetarian options in good restaurants. Now it's great to see more and more choice with some brilliant creative dishes in restaurants, cafés and supermarkets. There is definitely now an overall greater acceptance of being vegetarian."

The Magical Mystery Tour continues: Paul McCartney and Nancy Shevell travel in style as they head back to the UK

It's already been a jet-setting start to the year for Paul McCartney and his wife Nancy Shevell who have ticked off France and America as destinations.

And on Thursday the couple added to their list of trips as they were spotted getting ready to board a flight from LA back to London.

Not surprisingly the pair have honed the skill of dressing for travelling, looking very sharp as they made their way through the airport.

Paul, 71, looked much younger than his years wearing a well-fitted black suit with a white shirt unbuttoned at the top.

The Beatles star kept his eyes covered with sunglasses, while his hair was pushed off his face making him look every inch the star he is.

Nancy, 53, showed off her slim figure in a pair of black leggings over which she wore a long black top.

Paul and Dave, 45, had teamed up with
Ringo Starr and the other surviving members of Nirvana, bassist Krist Novoselic and touring guitarist Pat Smear, to form Sirvana and were awarded at the Grammys recently for their track Cut Me Some Slack.

It has only been a brief stay in LA of Paul and Nancy as just the week before Paul had attended the NME Awards in London where he was honoured with the Songwriters' Songwriter gong.

In his speech, The Beatles legend revealed how he used to make up stories to put in the magazine while in the band: 'One of the things we used to like to try and do was to plant a false story in the NME. We actually got in with 'George was Billy Fury's cousin', which he wasn't. Living on the edge, man.'

Paul McCartney Gets By With Help From KCSN Radio

As legendary as Paul McCartney is, he's not above picking up the phone and personally thanking a radio programmer for playing songs from his latest album, "New."

When KCSN Los Angeles program director Sky Daniels arrived at the adult alternative station yesterday (March 6), he received a message that none other than McCartney wanted to speak with him.

Upon calling Jill Weindorf, senior VP of promotion for McCartney's label, Hear Music/Concord Music Group, he learned that McCartney was in Los Angeles shooting a video for "New" track "Early Days" the day before and spent the evening with "friends at dinner," according to Weindorf. Those friends regaled McCartney with stories about KCSN and how it has played cuts from "New," including the title track and second single "Queenie Eye."

Impressed by the station's support, McCartney then called the label and asked how he could contact KCSN to say thanks. From there, McCartney and Daniels chatted for more than an hour.

Listen: Paul McCartney Interview On KCSN Radio

"Paul's call was so thoughtful, I found myself fighting back tears," Daniels says. "He told us of how his friends all loved the station, and [that] they told him that KCSN was playing a number of songs from 'New' and he simply wanted to say thanks."

In the call-turned-interview, McCartney discussed the emotional wave that the recent 50th anniversary of the Beatles' U.S. arrival had created in him; his appreciation for the multiple Grammy Awards that he recently won; and, how happy he is to have developed a "real band" with his longtime touring group of Brian Ray, Rusty Anderson, Wix Wickens and Abe Laboriel, Jr.

McCartney disclosed that he was excited to begin work on a new project: creating the music for a forthcoming animated film. "It's like being a kid getting to play with some of the most creative people in the world," McCartney said. He also expounded on the thrill he still gets from fans' reactions. "When people tell you that you wrote the 'soundtrack to their life,' that's pretty meaningful."

McCartney's gratitude humbled Daniels. "When Paul McCartney's friends sing the praises of KCSN, and he feels compelled to listen and reach out to say thanks, it validates the support of our members and the hard work of our staff. It really is a statement that radio can still touch hearts and minds, even those of the greatest songwriter of our time."

A listener-supported public radio station and a service of California State University, Northridge, 88.5 FM KCSN offers a 24-hour, commercial-free mix of rock, alternative, indie, soul, blues and Americana. McCartney is, obviously, in the mix. The station was also recently added as one of the 32 reporters to Billboard's Triple A radio airplay chart.

"New" debuted at No. 3 on the Nov. 2 Billboard 200 album chart and has sold 190,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The title cut first single reached No. 18 on Adult Contemporary and No. 21 on Triple A.

While everyone's at the Dolby Theatre Sir Paul McCartney and Dave Grohl take wives on double date during Oscars night

It was a night when all the big names in Hollywood were at the Dolby Theatre except for two.

Sir Paul McCartney and Dave Grohl decided against joining the Oscars' festivities to enjoy an evening out with their wives at a vegan restaurant on Melrose Avenue.

With Nancy Shevell and pregnant Jordyn Blum on their arms, the musicians no doubt took a chance to celebrate (again) their Grammy win for Best Rock Song.

McCartney, 71, and Grohl, 45, had teamed up with the other surviving members of Nirvana, bassist Krist Novoselic and touring guitarist Pat Smear, to form Sirvana and were awarded at the music ceremony for their track 'Cut Me Some Slack'.

'This song was two hours in my studio,' Dave said during his Grammy acceptance speech, 'I called up Paul and said, "Hey, man, do you want to come jam with some friends of mine?" He came over, we knocked this out in a couple of hours, and to me, that's what rock'n'roll is all about.'

It featured on the soundtrack for Dave's directorial debut documentary Sound City, which sadly wasn't nominated by the Academy this year, so it's no wonder the former Nirvana drummer didn't attended the awards ceremony or parties.

However, they still dressed up for the occasion, with the musicians in suits and their wives in stylish cocktail dresses.

Nancy, 52, had opted for a sheer blue lace dress with a red underlay, and Jordyn, 37, went for a form-fitting black lace gown which emphasised her baby bump.

McCartney had flown into Los Angeles after attending the NME Awards in London where he was honoured with the Songwriters' Songwriter gong.

In his speech, The Beatles legend revealed how he used to make up stories to put in the magazine while in the band: Sir Paul McCartney said: 'One of the things we used to like to try and do was to plant a false story in the NME. We actually got in with 'George was Billy Fury's cousin', which he wasn't. Living on the edge, man.'

The two couples dined at Crossroads vegan restaurant of course, because Sir Paul is staunchly against eating animals or their by-products, but that must have been a concession for Dave who is most definitely not.

He once complained about sharing a private jet with Coldplay where all the food was vegetarian and no smoking was allowed, however Grohl isn't totally against the lifestyle choice, as detailed in a 2011 tour rider for the Foo Fighters.

In a 52-page document, the band had written: 'Vegetarians. Yep. The Crusades didn't rid the world of them, so we have to pretend to care Chicken is not a vegetarian food. Neither is fish. In fact, if you considered chicken or fish vegetarian, please fire yourself.'

'You Gave Me The Answer' Brendan from Australia asks

Imagine what your life might be like if you had made a few different decisions. For instance, what if you'd taken on a different job, or you had attended a different school / university, or maybe learnt to play a different musical instrument.

Here at PaulMcCartney.com we're still dreaming of one day becoming an astronaut. (NASA, feel free to give us a call!)

Paul had his musical appetite from a young age. That passion for music has led him along a path we all know and love, and it's a path we're very grateful he went down! There have been a lot of adventures along the way, but imagine how different things might be now if Paul had been given a geometry set for his birthday instead of that trumpet!

Brendan Browne from Australia wonders what direction Paul's life might take if he were to go back to school. He asks:

"If you became a full time student, what would you study?"

We spoke with Paul to find out. He replied:

"Good question, thank you Brendan. I love reading and would be interested in studying English literature or history. Or computer studies, which is such a useful skill."

(Sounds like Paul might be after our job soon!)

ROCK AGAINST CANCER - CONCERT AT THE KINGS

PAUL McCARTNEY, BOB GELDOF & BRIAN MAY
BACK ROCK AGAINST CANCER GIG IN TINY VILLAGE PUB

Three of Britain's biggest rock stars - Sir Paul McCartney, Brian May and Sir Bob Geldof - are backing a 'Rock Against Cancer' concert at a pub in a tiny Wiltshire village.

The legends are helping to promote the concert at The Kings Arms in the hideaway hamlet of All Cannings, near Devizes, on Saturday May 31st.

Sir Paul and Queen guitarist Brian May are leading a social media campaign to raise awareness of the cancer charity event.

Live Aid leader Sir Bob is fronting the reformed Boomtown Rats to headline the 'Concert At The Kings' show in the village that has a population of only 630.

'Rock Against Cancer' was an idea thought up by three residents of All Cannings who have each fought with cancer - pub landlord Richard Baulu, sound engineer John 'Grubby' Callis and the village's own local hero, Andy Scott, guitarist with Seventies chart-toppers The Sweet.

They launched the annual event two years ago. Artists including Jeff Beck, Brian May, Roger Taylor, Mike & The Mechanics, Midge Ure and Tom Robinson have performed and help raise more than £35,000 ($58,599) for cancer charities.

This year the organisers are aiming to raise the profile of the little-known gig by asking stars to help a social media campaign by posing in 'Rock Against Cancer' T-shirts - and first to respond were Sir Paul, Brian May and actress-singer Kerry Ellis, star of The Queen musical 'We Will Rock You'.

'We're hugely grateful for this fantastic support to put the concert on the map,' said Richard Baulu. 'It's a great boost for the cause to have such rock giants in our campaign T-shirts.'

Five bands playing hits covering 30 years of rock will perform at this year's event, staged in a field adjoining the Kings Arms beer garden - The Boomtown Rats, Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel, The Troggs, Paul Young's Los Pacaminos and Dire Straits spin-off The Straits. Money raised from the gig will go to Macmillan Cancer Support and the Bristol hospital oncology support charity Above and Beyond.

'We hoping to take our total raised to over £50,000 ($83,713) this year,' said John Callis, 'We all know friends and family who have been affected by cancer and we realise the huge need for investment in research and support. With all of this help, we will beat this!'

If you think Wings deserves to be nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame...

Should WINGS be nominated into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? There's a debate amongst Beatles/Paul McCartney fans whether Wings is covered by Paul's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a "solo artist." Does Wings qualify as a band and are they worthy with a string of number one hits during the '70s? Should its band members be recognized for their contributions?
